Natural Gas Powered Vehicles
The greatest physical example of Metropolitan's commitment to environmental responsibility is our conversion to natural gas powered vehicles. In a continuing effort to convert our hauling-fleet of trucks to clean-burning natural gas, for a typical hauling truck travelling an average of 85 miles per day, Metropolitan will reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by 26% . On average, one truck fueled by natural gas can reduce in excess of 5 tons of NOx and Particulate Matter (PM) per year, compared to a diesel-fueled truck. A 9-truck fleet fueled by natural gas, for example, can reduce NOx and PM emissions by 45 tons per year – that's 90,000 lbs of NOx and Particulate Matter not discharged annually into the air that we breathe.
As the cleanest of all fossil fuels, natural gas is, today, the most environmentally sensitive and economically responsible alternative to diesel fuel. By fueling our trucks with natural gas and by reducing as many airborne pollutants as possible, Metropolitan demonstrates its ongoing commitment to sustaining the Earth's environment.
